Security for Journalists
Journalists are too often the victims of government-sanctioned violence against the free press. Journalists know that when they cover chaotic and dangerous events, a press credential is a thin shield against the bullets flying and batons swinging around them. But more and more, journalists themselves have become the targets of corrupt police and intelligence agencies trying to stop news agencies from showing the public the turmoil caused by government corruption and malfeasance.
Resources that journalists can use to protect themselves include:
On-Line Privacy for Journalists
Information Security for Journalists
The Freedom of the Press Foundation delivers digital security trainings to news organizations, freelance and citizen journalists, and other at-risk groups.
The Committee to Protect Journalists provides "Safety Notes" intended to keep journalists safe, and well as CPJ Journalist Security Guide.
Additional topics and resources can be found in the Journalist's Toolbox.
