Bypassing Internet Censorship

 

There is a tremendous amount of information on-line, but just because information is available on-line doesn't mean that it is available to you. Information may be blocked, hidden, or censored because someone / some administrator / some government agency disagrees with the information being shared on-line.

A common example of on-line censorship is the Great Firewall of China; a combination of legislative actions and technologies enforced by the People's Republic of China to regulate the Internet domestically. Its role in Internet censorship in China is to block access to selected foreign websites and to slow down cross-border internet traffic.

We have recently seen social media platforms, like Facebook and Twitter, "fact checking" and censoring on-line posts. At the same time DOD organizations have attempted to intimidate into silence groups that posted information in opposition to government policies and activities.
