Disposable, Temporary, and Forwarded E-mail

 

Disposable e-mail lets you create an e-mail address that can be used when you don't want to give out your real e-mail address, but still need to receive an e-mail from someone (such as to register for an on-line service or account). Disposable e-mail addresses last just a few minutes, or perhaps a few hours, and then automatically delete themselves along with any received e-mail.

Temporary e-mail addresses allow you to create a non-private address (anyone who knows the address can see the received e-mail). Any address (account name) works on these temporary e-mail domains, but there is no real security for the account... go to the temporary e-mail website, enter the account name and all received e-mail is displayed.

E-mail forwarding services receive an e-mail and forward it to an address you have previously selected, thereby shielding your real e-mail address.

While each of these services has the same underlying goal - to protect your "real" e-mail address - they each function a bit differently, offering features that you may or may not want. These services many also be used in combination, such as by forwarding e-mail to a temporary e-mail address, or using a disposable e-mail to set-up a temporary e-mail address account, thereby adding one more layer of separation (security?) between the e-mail sender and you.
